While browsing on social media like Instagram, you come across pages that are filled with cute pictures of pups and dogs. Looking at them fills you with the will to get one as you see them being so obedient and loving on the reel.
Fast forward to the day you get your pup/dog. You’re overjoyed beyond words, and your pup also loves you. Now’s the time you take pictures and show your followers your new companion. You try to replicate those perfect pictures, but lo and behold, your pup just doesn’t sit in one place to have a picture taken. It has too much energy and just wants to play. Now you wonder, how is it that those people on Instagram take such perfect pictures of their pet?
In this post, we will discuss some tips and tricks and help you get those perfect photos of your canine pal to adorn your feed.
Know its personality: After a few days with your pup, you can understand a lot of its personality. See what your dog likes the most and photograph it doing that activity. This shows more personality of your dog, and also makes it much easier for you to take a good photo. If your dog has a lot of energy and loves to play outdoors, take it out and photograph it doing its thing. If it’s a lazy pup, photograph it daydreaming.
Bribe: Many dogs, if not all, are very receptive to positive reinforcement via treats. If you want your dog to sit and pose in a certain way, don’t be afraid to use your dog’s favourite treat to bribe them and make them sit in a certain way. Rewarding them will guarantee you more shots and better chances of getting the perfect photo.
Level: Perspective is key, remember that. A lot can be told via a photograph by simply adjusting your perspective. It is advised that the best photos can be taken at your dog’s level. Kneel and see things from your dog’s perspective. That way, a lot more expressive photos can be captured.
Location: Like any other photo, location is also vital of course. Find the perfect area with good lighting and an area where your dog is comfortable. The location should have a certain aesthetic that makes your picture so much more appealing and beautiful.
Experiment: Test limits with your dog and try to experiment. Take it out for a walk or a quick run to get its spirits up. This way you’ll get its spirits up and you can capture a smiley pup. Do reward your dog for cooperating.
Camera Settings: Set your camera according to the lighting, and your dog’s temperament. If your dog is prone to move during a shoot, set it to a higher shutter speed so that you can capture your dog’s photograph effectively. Take burst shots, as there is a greater chance of you capturing the perfect photo in takes like this.
